A Journey of a 1000 miles starts with a single step

Short Running Events Short Events

What I call 'Short Events' are those which are less than 20 miles

The Lore of Running (Noakes 2001) suggests that you should train for distance first and only later for speed

I think that I have done the distance part. Although I might have found that a deep cut on my knee from my accident may have limited me to 'only' 40 miles for longer events
I have done the distance part now so I am now focusing on improving my speed by doing what are by comparison sprint events of half marathon and shorter.
Some of these shorter events are on roads, so not only are they shorter but it is easier to get good times as the footing is more predictable and you do not have to concentrate on the ground so much.

Now after 3 years of running, I recognise that improving running style and speed are of benefit in the longer events, especially the running style. Alot of energy can be wasted with poor technique when you are fatigued towards the end of a long run or part way through a multi day like the Pembrokeshire Coast Path
