A Journey of a 1000 miles starts with a single step

Coombe Gibbet to Overton 2006 Coombe Gibbet to Overton

This was to be the second event of my big mileage weekend, although only 16 miles

It would be a good indication of whether I thought the running consecutive long days would be possible, there is no stage in my planned Pembrokshire Coast Path run of more than 38 miles. I did 40 yesterday so I would see how my legs would feel on this short 16 miler.
I was raining this morning, but the real problem was that I had forgotten that the clocks went forward an hour, so when I said to Janet that I though we needed to leave at 12:30 she said 'but it's 12:50 now...'
A bit of a panic but it did not really matter, all I wanted to do was the mileage really to see how it felt.
We arrived at the parking on the road for Coombe Gibbet in the cloud and rain. Because of my forgetting the clock change, I ended up running up into the cloud only to be met by a 'stampede' of runners coming dowm. I had missed the start by around 2-3 minutes. I carried onto the top, I didn't want to only do part of the route, it was only about 100m further up.
Once I got to the Gibbet, I turned and ran back down through the cloud, visibility was about 50m, so the rest of the field was out of sight almost as soon as they had passed.

Trying to catch up with the race
Although I was trying to maintain the same pace that Gobi and I had run at the day before, I suspect that I just wanted to catch up with the rest of the field. It took me about 5 minutes to catch the first runner, then I'd passed alot by 10-15 minutes.
I had settled down to the pace of yesterday after about 10 minutes, but was still gradually catching and passing people
Janet missed me at the 5 mile point by about 5 minutes, so she went onto the end where she would definately see me.
In the second half of the route I did not pass anyone, in fact I felt as though I was slowing down, but I think this was just a feeling as my finishing time of 2:50 suggests that I was going about the same speed as yesterday.

Still no-one in sight
